Lauryn Hill Live at Bowery Ballroom

Last night we got the chance to see a recluse living legend in concert...
Ms. Lauryn Hill.
It was clear from the start that her diva-ness was going to control the flow of the evening (considering she was scheduled to start at 8pm and didnt go on until 1230am).
Once she got on the stage, a state of confusion and shock set in.
It was clear to everyone in the crowd that she is indeed, bat shit insane.
Constantly barking orders at her band and fighting with the sound engineers of the club.
In her mind, nothing sounded right and the levels of each instrument needed to be adjusted 30 times per song.
The set list was quite scattered and hard to recognize at first.
Re-imaginations of songs left people in a Bob Dylan like state of confusion.
But then she jumped into the Fugees joints and the place went bananas.
Songs like Killing Me Softly, How Many Mics, Zealots, and Ready or Not sounded as good, if not better than the originals.

Once she started playing these, it became completely clear that even if Lauryn Hill looks like a crazed, New York city bag lady..... she is still Lauryn Hill.
The closest thing to a James Brown that hip-hop/soul will see again for a long, long time.
She is a legend.
No denying it.
