Before Lauren even had a ticket to come to NY, I was already hot on the case of stock piling tickets to shows. The first had to be The Roots at Brooklyn Bowl for New Years Eve.
The show was awesome.
Originally scheduled to start at 10pm (doors open at 8pm), the Roots showed up an hour late.... as usual and took the stage in at around 11pm.
An underwhelming New Years countdown was saved by the Roots leaving the stage and basically parading through the crowd playing "Auld Lang Syne".
After the celebration, they took a break for an hour. Well everyone BUT Questlove took a break.
Questo was also DJ'ing!!!
When the time came for the 2nd set, Questo left the decks and headed right to us.
He led a Philadelphia based brass septet back out and on to the stage.
By the end of the 2nd set, we were too beat to go on.
We retired to our hotel and fell asleep like a ton of bricks.
The show deserved 4 out of 5 stars.
Now we gear up for a New Year double header.....
Pee Wee's Playhouse on Broadway followed by Lauryn Hill at Bowery Ballroom.
An unlikely yet amazing lineup for the day.
