BEIRUT - Day Two

Saturday Nov 13, 2010
Beirut - Putting the Pieces Together

Woke up late, around 11am or 12pm - lunch/brunch on Gemmayzah at Paul - At Torino by 2pm - whiskey afternoon, double Wild Turkey on the rocks.....

My objective in Beirut was to see some good live music. Wajdi told me there really wasnt any shows scheduled. I searched through a book Manuel let me borrow called Untitled Tracks: On Alternative Music in Beirut.
Featured in the book of photographs is the band "Scrambled Eggs". I did some looking into them before heading over to Beirut and really liked their sound. I thought if I could catch them live, that would be a must for the trip.

While at Torino, I met the singer of the band - chatted for a bit, expressed my interest in the band and possible filming - ran into Hania (owner of Metropolis Cinema and friend from Doha) - hunt to find Ingresso/EM Chill (an underground music venue) - walk forever but find it - another whiskey - Montreal bartender tips for Beirut - met owner - discussed setting up a show with local bands of Beirut and Buy Star Bombs, really keen - sundown - walk back to Monroe - 8PM

Nap til 9pm - head back to Gemmayzah - Joe Pena's - meet JP's friends - start with margaritas - left the bar prematurely - Gouche Cavier - still no food - whiskey & shots called Brain Damage
Left there (drunk) - walked to rooftop bar Coup D'état, closed for season - apparently stole a childs drawing off of board (found it in my pocket the next morning)
Bar with a tree inside - shots of tequila - rejected at Green Door Bar - bar called Sepia, more whiskey - 2 hours in a cab - driver stopped to buy himself a beer and said "Dont worry. Is legal to drink and drive in Beirut!!" - rejected at more clubs - almost fell through the roof of BO18
Final drink at 530am - sun is coming up - waking up early..... unlikely.
