I have lost track of the days and their events.
These things I know for sure....
1- Feathered Cocaine was a let down.
I was so excited to see it but at the same time, I was skeptical once I read that it involved Bin Laden etc etc.
I met with "Parrot" (the crazed Falconer) and spoke for awhile about falcons and The Gulf before the screening started.
He had some strange things to say. He compared interbreeding of falcons to going into the maternity ward with a shotgun and killing every baby in there and then asking "What happened to all the babies? Why are there no babies left?"
Yeah. Weird.
Then the film cemented that insanity. It was loads of insane conspiracy theories about Bin Laden and how this guy knows where he is and can go get him anytime.
And how he plans on using his reward money for killing Bin Laden blah blah blah.
2- I slept through loads of films.
I hate myself for doing it but I really had no control. As soon as the film lost my attention (or even as soon as the lights went down), I was fast asleep.
- Short films program - It was late.
- Budrus - I really kick myself for this. When I woke up, everyone was standing and clapping and roaring. Must have been excellent.
- Sentimental Engine Slayer - Omar Rodriguez-Lopez lays a giant stinker in the form of dreams, murder, rape, incest, and just some basically bad filmmaking techniques. Didn't feel bad sleeping in this one. I saw most of the film and realized after, that I should have just slept through the whole thing.
- Metropia - The animation in this was cool... for the first 15 minutes. Then, it was nap time. From what I saw of this film it was just a slightly reinvented "1984". Whatever it was, I needed the shut eye.
- Lucky Life - I didn't actually fall asleep in this one.... but I wish I had. It was AWFUL. Really felt like it was 5 hours long. A tale of 4 friends who go back to a beach house to relive an apparent "amazing summer" because one of the friends is dying of cancer. Well..... that so called amazing summer was relived and it was just like the other one.... NOTHING HAPPENED. Each scene was about 20 minutes of absolutely nothing. Shame on you Lucky Life.
3- I saw some really good films.
Although I did fall asleep in loads of films.... I also stayed awake for some really good ones.
Dream Home - A Korean horror flick that seriously was the most gruesome thing I have ever seen in my life. Graphic murders galore. But somehow, between all that violence and blood and "What the fuck?!??!" moments, there was a very simple story about the real estate crisis in Hong Kong and one woman's struggle to attain what she always dreamed of.
Well.... she got it. And spilled loads of blood on the way.

Gainsbourg, Je t'Aime... Moi Non Plus - super imaginitive bio-pic. I enjoy every second of this 2+ hour film. The use of lighting, puppets, great actors (won best actor at the awards show last night!!), and loads of other unconventional tricks to tell the story of French singer/songwriter Serge Gainsbourg.
4.5 Stars
The Infidel - this film was good but I think it got a little too smart for its own good at times. You really need to know 3 things to enjoy this film completely. 1- The Queen's English. 2- Muslim culture. 3- Jewish slang and culture. If you know nothing about one of those 3, you might as well skip this one. The cheap laughs are good but the really smart ones are much better. Omid Djalili really plays this character well.... a Muslim man who finds out he is adopted and is really Jewish. Simple idea.... good payoff.

Get Low - Wicked! Bill Murray and Robert Duvall are brilliant from beginning to end in this story of a man who wants to host his own funeral party before he is dead in order to find out what other people really thought about him. Every time Bill Murray opens his mouth in this film, you can't help but crack up. Robert Duvall's seriousness has never been better. I loved this film.

4- I am exhausted.
Besides my excitement to see my family and also go to the Phillies game tonight.... I am ready to be back on that plane to Doha. I came down with a killer cold last night and now I cant breathe, I cant swallow, I have a fever of 100+, and I just want to sleep for a few days.
I will have to fight this off quickly because I am on a bus to Philly in less than 3 hours to see the Phillies battle it out with the Mets. 8 rows back on the Phillies dugout!!!
Then I am heading to my parents place to relax with the fam for a day before heading back to NY to fly out to Doha.
Long days and nights.... but gotta do the damn thing.
Sooner or later I'll have a minute to relax.
