The Snake Comes Out

"In November of 2009, we took the plunge. We decided that an idea was good enough to chase. Unbeknownst to us, it would take until July 2012 to (almost) fully realize that dream.
We fended off arrests, dogs, rats, bugs, and rogue electricity. We faced the most horrific and heart breaking of situations.
We punished our minds and our bodies.
But we also found immense love between us, and them, and us and them.
We became one. We became another.
And here I am shivering under this single sheet so close I can taste it.
Bugs crawling on the walls, on the floors, on the bed beneath me.
But still... I am unphased.
I am focused in a time when focus seems the impossible."

This is what I wrote on the eve of the final shoot of Zabaleen.

And when the dust settled and the burning plastic smell started to leave my nose...
I was packing my bags and preparing to head "home".
The final pieces of the puzzle are in the box.
Now we just need to find their perfect fit.

I've accepted my failures and recognized my triumphs.
We still have a long way to go...
But we've come this far and haven't turned back yet.

And my breath is sending the finish line aflutter.
