How To Drive Like An Idiot: DOHA EDITION

If you ask anyone in Doha; "What's the worst thing about Qatar?"
They will surely tell you; "The driving."
Qatar, at one point, had the highest death by auto accident numbers (per capita) in the world.
IN THE WORLD!!!!!
There are only 2 million or so people here and nearly 300 die every year from car accidents.
Thats insane.
I found this website put together by some students here in Qatar if you want to know more about it. They got their info down tight. They even got pie charts, son!!!

So... with all that as a prefix....
Here is the story of the day.

I am sitting at a set of traffic lights on the edge of West Bay waiting to do a U-Turn to go to City Centre. The lights in both directions were red.
Just then I see 2 cars flying through the lights (coming from the area of Salam) and whipping the turn towards City Centre. One is a white Mustang and the other some kind of pea green sports car. They are both going around 150km per hour (that's about 93 miles per hour).
They are dangerously close to each other as the pea green car shoots out ahead of the Mustang.
The Mustang swerves violently, tires screeching, and the driver obviously loses control.
He tries to compensate for the swerve, cuts it too hard, and loses control completely.
His car rockets up over the sidewalk, takes out a sign, goes up a 7 foot ramped embankment, and harpoons into a parked car.
Luckily, no one seemed to be hurt. But the worst part about the whole incident was the dude got out of the car and was laughing about it. Like it was no big deal.
And to him, it probably wasn't.
He'll get a slap on the wrist and a brand new car for free.
Why?
Well.... I don't really need to say why.
Anyone who lives here or has been here knows the answer to that.
Had he killed someone.... still nothing.
He may have had to pay a little bit of money to the family of the victim but he'd still be out on the roads driving like an idiot with no remorse for what he did.

I love Qatar. I really do.
But Qatar needs to wake up when it comes to road safety.
Before hundreds more innocent people lose their lives.

And that's all the preaching I will do.
