But some are getting repeated play recently.
Arcade Fire - Suburbs
I didnt really have much interest in this album (nor did I even know it was coming out until the week before).... but when I found in the good ol' DropBox.... I was pleasantly surprised.
The record is far more accessible for other people to become "fans" and at times borders on "poppy". Good stuff though.
STANDOUT TRACK: Modern Man
Interpol - S/T
I was REALLY looking forward to this considering the sheer number of times they broke up and re-formed and broke up again. Didnt think they were going to ever put out another record.
So when they did.... I was pumped.....
For a minute.
Then I heard it.
Total mediocrity.
STANDOUT TRACK: Try It On
Black Mountain - Wilderness Heart
Brit sent this over to me. For some reason (even though I have other records by them) I thought they were only a metal band.
When it came on on my iTunes shuffle, I scrambled to the computer to see who it was.
Incredible record. Filled with blues infused hard rock and a roller coaster ride of pyschedelic influenced garage rock.
STANDOUT TRACK: Buried in Blues
Menomena - Mines
Another record that slipped under my radar. No clue this was coming out unitl, again, saw it in the DropBox. I got it about 2 weeks before the release and liked it so much that I sprung the 10 bucks to buy it legit on iTunes. Sometimes a record is so good that you just have to support the efforts of the artist. This was definitely one of those times. BUY THIS RECORD.
STANDOUT TRACK: All of them but if I chose one... Killemall
This was a surprising sound for a band that I nearly played to death (thanks to Elwood Gentry). Not what I expected at all. First listen…. Nothing special. 2nd thru 100th listen…. Love it. The new sound is far more accessible and these guys (and gals) should be breaking through soon. Especially with the female vocalist sounding exactly like Stevie Nicks on “You and I Know”.
STANDOUT TRACK: Boy
I have been looking forward to this record for quite some time.
Sadly, I was let down.
Nothing really jumped out to me. It was sorta just the same as their incredible record Red Yellow & Blue, but didn’t have the same effect that record had... because.... well because it was original.
STANDOUT TRACK: ehhh….. I guess…. Oh Man (but even that is just ok)
What the hell is this record? I don’t really get it to be honest. I understand that she has “something to say” but whatever that “something” is…. Doesn’t quite come across. Filled with grungy electronica and fuzz guitar. Piss poor lyrics too. Guess that’s where Paper Planes really take you.
STANDOUT TRACK: None
Menomena! YES!!!
