Last night started with an investment. A welcoming gift if you will. 1050 riyal worth of Kentucky to congratulate Christian on his safe arrival and first full week of work. (even though he missed today hahaha) Then it was off to the Souk to show Christian some "real(ish)" Doha. First stop was an Oud shop where we were given a quick lesson. Then Christian got a chance to try his hand at it. Then we made a stop at a small garment shop where we were hosted by a lovely old man who showed us how he made the beautiful gold and silver adornments on clothing as well as treated us to tea and coffee. We chatted for a nice long time and as we were leaving, he demanded that Christian and I try on some of his creations. Then it was off to the Tajine rooftop for some food and sheesha. On our way out, we ran into "The Polaroid Man" and had a nice impromptu photo shoot in which a group of locals joined in. (these scans are AWFUL.... the actual photos are beautiful) 4 photos and a pot shop later we were off to our last stop... The Bird Market. Cause I mean, let's face it.... who doesn't want to handle giant exotic parrots, rabbits, and acrobatic hamsters? Christian was able to get up close and personal with one of the parrots. And then it tried to eat the buttons off of his shirt. When we left, I could tell the Christian was falling in love with Doha in the same way that I have. Wide eyed and grinning, we headed out for a few nightcaps and a little jam session at the W. When I laid my head down, I felt a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. I was given the best possible introduction to the city almost 2 months ago and now I am happy to be able to do the same for someone else.
