Haven't updated in awhile for good reasons..... no time.
Been up to my ears in work, workshops, teaching, writing, and plenty of late night soccer matches (GO USA!!!!).
We are currently running a very intensive workshop for our 8 filmmakers who will partake in their first ever 10 minute short film starting in July.
We recently had the pleasure of hosting the extremely talented, Sandi Sissel for a cinematography workshop. Sandi has worked on loads of films (Salaam Bombay, Master and Commander, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Austin Powers, People Under the Stairs, DROP DEAD FRED, and countless others).
She also proved to me just how small the world truly is. Turns out her assistant is a cameraman that I used to assist in New York!!! Really. Strange.
Right now, we are pleased to be hosting Shekhar Kapur (director of Elizabeth), who is teaching our students about directing and working with actors. Some really interesting stuff going on in his lectures. Chaos, existence, identity, and loads of other theoretical queries.
There is about one week left of workshops with more special guests before the filmmakers move into the grueling 2 weeks remaining of preproduction.
I will be working with 4 of the 8 students on their films from July to early August.
So that's what has been consuming most of my time recently.
But there certainly is light at the end of the tunnel. A very bright light.
Next weekend, Lauren and I are flying across the Gulf to Dubai, renting a car, and driving up to Oman to the Six Senses Spa for a relaxing weekend hideaway.
I am biting at the bit to get on that flight. Here is a glimpse of the villa we will be staying in:
